About the mask standard:

N series is the American standard,

KN series is the Chinese standard.

The FFP series is a European standard,

The larger the number, the higher the level of protection.

If you use a formula, It’s a little bit easier to figure out:

FFP3 > FFP2=N95=KN95 > KN90

A number with a V at the end indicates a valve.

All 95’s start with the N95 series.

The 90 series is not so useful as the 95, but it can resist more than 90%, much better than the normal mask.

In general, the N95 series is adequate against viruses and influenza.

In view of most of us are confused when making the choice of masks, I would like to introduce you to several standards of masks. 

The model and standard of the mask are printed on the left side of the mask.

1. Masks are divided into three standards:

The n95 is made according to American standard NOISH by 3M and Honeywell.

FFP2 is the European standard EN149; when KN95 is the Chinese standard gb2626-2006.

Any masks have the standards of those three are qualified masks.

2. Medical n95 masks need to prevent high-pressure liquid spillage, so they have higher standards than ordinary n95 masks.

Take 3M for example, models 1860 and 9132 are the most commonly used medical respirators.

In addition, there are the 1860s for children. Ordinary people or medical personnel who do not come into contact with high-pressure liquid spillage can choose the ordinary n95 masks which meet the standard of NOISH standard.

3. European manufacturers of FFP2 standard masks include German UVEX, etc. FFP3 is a higher level (99) respirator.

4. Chinese standard GB2626-2006 refers to the standard of ordinary KN95 masks.

The standard of medical KN95 mask is GB19083-2010.

(Also, regular KN95 masks can be used by ordinary people and medical workers who do not contact with high-pressure liquid spatter environment.)

5. Another common problem is, mask with a valve or without a valve mask? The mask with the valve is more comfortable.

Surgical masks are not allowed with valves.

When ordinary people are infected or suspected to be infected, they must choose a surgical mask without a valve. Because the mask with the valve could only protect the people who wear it, but they may infect the people who meet them, so when you meet anybody who wears the mask with valve, leave them alone or go far from them to protect yourself.

6. Medical surgical mask, the common standard is YY0469-2010, or YY0469-2011, it is printed on the independent packaging of each mask.

My friend made several phone calls to 3M today and received an email. Finally, I understand various types of N95 masks. There is the information what I get from them:

1860/1870 + this model is used for medical operations, wet dust, etc

The model of 8210/8511 is used for construction, dust protection, etc

The model of 9210+ is used for industrial engineering, sand and dust control and decay material, etc

Bought from abroad, are likely to get the N95 mask for construction or dust protection, no virus protection function, you must check carefully.

The following two are a large number of purchasing models in our place, including the famous 3M brand, although is N95, but purely construction dust protection mask, only to prevent the suspended particles/dust, pollen, etc., completely not antivirus, very expensive but has no effect for the new type of pneumonia.

The N95 is a mask standard, so be sure to keep the 1860/1870 + model in mind when you buy it, or the one with anti-virus, surgical, or flu-fighter, otherwise it will be useless.
